Decided to plug in my printer this morning. No dice. The computer recognizes that there is a printer connected, but doesn't have the driver. I spent the majority of my morning trying to figure out how to download the driver from the internet. Let's just say, I'm leaving that to the professionals. I couldn't figure it out. I was quite frustrated. Sometime in the morning, the Sisters (serving the YSA Ward) called and asked if I could give a recent convert a ride to church. No problem. I already pick up Christy, I'll just leave about 10 minutes earlier to get Marissa. Well, I waited for Marissa for 10 minutes. Problem is, I don't have either her phone number or her apartment number. I gave up and picked up Christy. I made it with about 5 minutes to spare.
There were 2 farewells in our ward today, so we were packed. Especially since one was an Earl. One good surprise was that Joshua had come for one of them, so I got to sit with my nephew. It's nice to know he's willing to sit through a meeting between his two single aunts. We had a really good relief society lesson. It was all about "charity never faileth". Our teacher asked us to make a circle around the room. Usually, I hate this. Make me get up, move chairs, and then I've got to fully participate in whatever you're gonna do. But I didn't mind today. She asked us to sit by 2 people we didn't know, and then we spent a few minutes introducing ourselves and getting to know each other. We did a couple other activities and it was enlightening, to say the least.
Then we had choir practice. Miraculously, I had a decent amount of people there. We're singing "They the Builders of the Nation" next week, and then we started this really fun "Be Still My Soul/Come, Come, Ye Saints" mix. I was blessed to find a summer pianist, who is actually a music major down at BYU. She's very nice and is saving my bacon with the choir. I'm open to ideas for gifts, because she deserves several. I wanted to go through the whole song, but it was hot and getting late, so we ended practice. I came home to a quiet house. I hadn't really eaten much, so I decided to open a can of vienna sausage. Well, I picked up the top one, and the bottom one came with it. But only until it was directly over my foot. Then it fell. Thankfully nothing was bleeding, but it still hurts. It'll probably bruise or something in the next couple days. I threw in the towel and went to bed.
We have this new method of cooking: the cast iron to oven method. I found it online for mom's birthday and the 4th of July. It was listed as the best way to cook a steak without a barbecue. Well, mom has also tried salmon that same way, and it came out wonderfully. It was cooked quicker and better and best of all - came out moist. So tonight she tried the same method with chicken. The sauce she used didn't really work out, but the chicken was amazing. It was super moist, but could have used a little more seasoning. I've got a marinade in mind to try next time. Tif woke me up for dinner at about 7pm, but I was so tired that I practically refused to get out of bed. I woke up around 10pm and went to find my family. They had saved me a plate of dinner and were making ice cream using the CuisinArt ice cream maker that they got a week or two ago. It came out really well, but they forgot the vanilla extract. We put some cut up peanut butter cups in it. We're excited to try out some different flavors now that we know we can be successful. Mom also has a friend on facebook who posts about how she loves her ice cream maker, so Mom asked her what tips she had. She gave mom several recipes and ideas. I'm looking forward to making homemade ice cream more often.
