My ward missionaries texted me Thursday night. All it said was "Is this Sarah?" Well, because of the computer excitement, I didn't check my messages until 11:30pm. I figured, if they are following mission rules, they are asleep. So I decided to text them first thing in the morning on Friday. For some reason, I was completely awake with my first alarm at 7:45am. Usually I snooze it until 8. Since I was wide awake, I texted the missionaries. And guess what? They wanted me to accompany a special musical number. No problem, right? Well, the baptism they wanted to sing at, is today. Yes, I had a full day's notice. This would usually be a problem, because it takes me roughly 1-3 weeks to learn a piece (depending on difficulty). Well, I had a look at the music. And because I was up early, I had time to play through it before work. The song is "Come Unto Christ" - the 2014 Youth Theme.
I've heard this song 3-4 times in the last few months and really like it. Most of the time when I like a song, I have no chance of playing the piano part. Thankfully, this one was different. I could actually play it through fairly well. There were some tricky parts, but not so many that it was out of my level. So the baptism was this morning at 11am, and we met to practice at 10am. I got there and outside the primary room were about a dozen missionaries (elders and sisters). My YSA Elders (Brown & Heldt) failed to mention that I would be accompanying every missionary in Moses Lake. Yes, that was a surprise. Thankfully, I only made a couple mistakes, and they were only noticeable if you had the music.
Because of the baptism, I missed our Saturday breakfast. So I had breakfast when I got home at noon. Mom made pancakes and bacon. You can never go wrong when there's bacon. While I was at the baptism, Tifini painted the... the... wire cover/pipe thing that they put up on the side of the house with the upstairs heat pump. When we were cleaning out the garage, we found extra cans of "Leather Satchel". Tif thought she's have to buy a little container, and was amazed when she didn't really have to think about the color name. Leather Satchel has been burned into our collective memory after so many different color choices, indecision and finally taking the leap and putting it on the house. And mom saying that she wasn't sure she'd like it and we'd have to re-paint it a different color. Anywho - Tif wanted to paint this wire-cover-pipe-thing Leather Satchel because it was just plain white and it really stood out against the brick. So she did that while I was gone. But Tifini is also afraid of heights and the wire-cover-pipe-thing extends into the roof. So after I ate breakfast/lunch I got out our big ladder and prepared to paint the last couple inches. Well, the ladder was too big to fit in the space and it took me and mom about 10 minutes to realize that all we had to do was pull the ladder out from the house a little, and I could climb up that way. It was really hot and rather difficult, but it's done. Isn't it pretty? (I don't have a before picture, but that long Leather Satchel colored wire-cover-pipe-thing used to be white.)
Well, it was sweltering, so we took a nap. Really, that's the only thing to do in this heat - get a fan going so you are relatively cool and sleep. Later, Tif went out with her friend Amber while mom and I picked up some Chicken Alfredo from Pizza Hut. Mom loves their cinnamon breadsticks. And I like them too, on occassion. This happened to be one of those occasions. We came home and mom turned on the tv. Halmark channel was having a sort of "Christmas in July" thing going on (although they called it something different). We felt no need to change the channel. It was this cute movie called "Mrs. Miracle". It's a chic flicky Christmas movie, but it was good. Oh - think Mary Poppins, only the father is single and it's Christmas. Ya, that's it. Anyways, it was a good day, albeit quite hot.
