I desperately need to get some motivation on my days off. This is getting ridiculous. I don't think I did anything of note today until about 6 or 7 pm. Mom said we needed to get out of the house, so we went to KFC for dinner and did a little shopping. We just got out to Walmart, and I realized that I hadn't returned "Transcendence" to the Redbox. So we drove back home to get it. On the way back out to Walmart, a woman started crossing the street right in front of us. Mom slammed on the brakes and leaned on the horn. Now, the woman had probably been patiently waiting on the corner to cross, but a white van on the cross street was completely blocking her from view. Mom honks and what does she do? You get 3 guesses. No, she didn't wave and keep walking. Nope, she didn't run out of the way. Yep - you got it, she slowed down and flipped us off. It just astounds me that someone can be so cavalier with their life. She took absolutely no responsibility over her own continued existence. If mom hadn't seen her in time, mom could have gone to jail, but this woman would be dead. And if not dead, at least seriously injured enough to affect the rest of her life. And this is one of the problems with people today - absolutely no sense of responsibility. Period.
Well, we all calmed our heart rates and kept driving. We went to Ross' and got a few fun things, including a purse (for me) and some notebooks (Tif and me). Also at Ross' I saw this:
Now, these are "Foo Dogs". I love these things. I even have my own little set that sit right outside my bedroom door.
Here's the cool thing about Foo Dogs. They are Chinese in origin and they are the "guarding lions". They sit outside some ancient palaces and homes in China. They are meant to protect the place they guard. (So, they sit outside my room, thus guarding my room. If I put them outside the back door, they would technically be meant to guard the whole house.) But there is one major difference between my Foo Dogs and the ones I found at Ross'. This will be hard to notice, so I'll just tell you. The ones at Ross' are both male Foo Dogs, and my set is a matched pair (one male and one female). Here's how you tell: The male Foo Dog has a paw on a sphere, meant to represent the world,
and the female Foo Dog has a paw on a Foo Dog cub, meant to resemble nurturing/family.
I really like these dogs because the tradition is that in order to appropriately and completely protect a home, both a male and female Foo Dog must be there to guard. The two at Ross' would be fine for a Chinese inspired decoration, but they would not be appropriate as protectors of the home. Food for thought.
Anyway, after Ross', we stopped by Walmart. Tif and I finally discovered yoga pants. They are too comfortable. Seriously. By the time we got home, though, we were all tired and a little grouchy. So it's time to call it a day.
