Church, Turkey, Depression Cake and Frosting

Slept in today.  It was glorious.  Went to church, played the organ, went to Family History class, Relief Society and then led choir.  We only had 3 girls show up... I have a new piece in mind, but I need more than 3 girls to sing it.  Perhaps it will have to wait until October.

Came home and had a little turkey for dinner.  At some point, Josslin texted me a picture of her knitting.  First knitting project she's ever done.  I'm quite proud of her.

Later in the evening, mom blackmailed me into making a dessert.  My options were make the dessert, or do the dishes.  I mistakenly chose the dessert.  We decided to try the "Crazy and Wacky Cake" AKA "Depression Cake".  It's supposedly the recipe that people used in the depression when there weren't a lot of fresh ingredients around (like eggs, milk and butter).  So we made it.  Then there was this chocolate peanut butter frosting recipe that we decided to try.
The cake came out cooked just right, and the frosting spread easily.  Then we had to let it cool.  Time to dig in:
Well, let's say that this recipe is not going in the book.  The cake is very cake-y, but it is ridiculously bland, despite the amount of sugar in it.  The only really good thing about it is the frosting.  This stuff solidified into a delicious chocolate peanut butter fudge that would probably taste better all on it's own, by the spoonful.  So the cake will probably not be made again in this household, but the frosting most definitely will be.
