Sundays sometimes feel like they never end. But in some ways that's a good thing.
Tifini went to church with Mom at 9am, so I had the house to myself. I had a little cereal and did some indexing. I forget how rewarding that is, especially when indexing obituaries. Several obits caught my eye:
Rachel - An 11 year old was playing with a shotgun and accidentally shot her in the back. After a couple of days, the doctors said there was no brain activity, and the family opted to end life support. This is sad for everyone involved. Even sadder - they did a blood test when she was admitted to the hospital and she was pregnant. Because of the accident, she miscarried the baby.
Noble - a retired Chiropractor. I was sorely tempted to put "Dr" under the "title" box for indexing, but I resisted.
Mr. Thompson - Political ally of the Kennedy family. His "political career ended in 1980 after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of accepting bribes from FBI agents posing as big-spending investors. The affair was known as the Abscam scandal. He was defeated in an election that November by Republican..." Ya, I got to index this one.
The mother of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - this wasn't really an obit, but more like an announcement in the society pages.
People's stories are amazing. Some of them are sad, some are interesting, some just remind me how glad I am to be me.
Anyway, after indexing, I made some brownies for the YSA Linger Longer and got ready for church. I wore my new maxi dress and tried my hand at a different braid - the waterfall braid. I had done the braid before, but it's been years. Miraculously, it turned out pretty good.
Then church, where I play the organ for sacrament and the piano for Relief Society. We had a lovely musical number by our Bishop's Daughter-in-laws called "Because He Lives." I don't recall having heard it before, but it was beautiful. Then linger longer after church. I was sitting with Josslin and I turned around to see if there was anyone I needed to talk to. (There wasn't, by the way.) And I noticed something.
The guys and girls did not mix. Now, that's not necessarily true, but most of the girls sitting at the all-guy tables were dating one of the guys at said table. It just struck me as funny that we're trying (as a ward) to encourage social interaction and dating, but the men and women segregate during prime social time.
Came home and had about 45 minutes until Stake Choir practice. I did a little more indexing and then headed up to practice. We didn't have a whole lot of people there because of the holiday, but enough to get a good practice in. Stake Conference is next week and I'm a little nervous about hitting some of the right notes. Had a lovely dinner after that, then our friend Amber dropped by with a cheesecake! I know, best friend ever. And it was delicious. I don't typically like cheesecake - and I loved this one. She even put huckleberries and this strawberry jelly on top. It was a great end to a Sunday.
